What to expect at chess tournaments!
Halloween Costume Contest:
We’re adding some extra fun to the tournament with a costume contest! The best boy’s and girl’s costumes will each win a bucket filled with candy, the best headpiece/mask, best prop/accessory, and best chess themed outfit will win a small bucket filled with candy, and every participant who dresses up will receive an extra treat just for joining in. Whether you go spooky, silly, or creative, all costumes are welcome…but chess-themed costumes will have the inside edge at claiming the top prizes. Come ready to play, and don’t forget to show off your style in your costume!
USCF Rated (Recommended for Most): The primary event! The longer time controls allow players to keep official notation and build a national US Chess rating. Bonus: Rated sections qualify for the team trophy and top-girl medals! First-timers should join the U500 section.
Non-Rated: A low-pressure entry point with shorter games and no notation required. While players are welcome to stay in the unrated section as long as they need to build up confidence and tournament skills, any child who takes 1st place in an unrated section must step up to a rated section for future events.
