Coaching with RCA is a chance to teach, lead, and make a difference in kids’ lives across the city. Our after-school classes typically run once a week for an hour and are filled with primarily beginner students in grades K–5. Each class includes a short lesson and time for gameplay, where coaches help kids improve and stay engaged.
Adult Coaches lead the class, teach lessons, and manage the room. Junior Coaches assist with gameplay and classroom support while gradually learning to lead different parts of the class under the guidance of an adult coach. Both roles offer the opportunity to earn more as you gain experience and demonstrate heightened coaching ability.
All RCA coaches are independent contractors (1099), not W-2 employees. We expect high-quality, engaging instruction consistent with RCA values and structure. To help our coaches succeed and to deliver a greater experience for our students, our more experienced head coaches often provide guidance and support during class, offering ongoing mentoring to help newer coaches grow in skill and confidence. We invest in coaching development so that every team member can both contribute more fully to RCA's mission of empowering kids through chess and continue growing personally and professionally as confident, capable leaders in any setting.
