Chess is a weekly, after-school, on-campus class at Forest Avenue Academic Magnet School in Montgomery, Alabama. This class is open to Forest Avenue students in grades K-5 only. Kids may take chess on Mondays or Fridays, they will not take chess on both days.

Classes are for new-to-chess and experienced players alike. Each class includes instruction, guided practice, and fun free play time. Students go directly to the school cafeteria for chess after their last class each Monday or Friday. Parents may pick up their kids after class or alert RCA to send them to GoodTimes (if registered with them).

Class Pricing/Discounts:

  • Monthly Class Price: $65

    • Classes are scheduled each Monday and Friday that school is in session between Sep. 11 and May 24.

    • Flat-Rate Monthly Tuition: Tuition is flat-rated at $65 per month, averaged across the entire academic year.

    • Covers 1 day per week: Kids attend each Monday or Friday, not both.

    • Continuous Weekly Learning: Every week school is out, whether for holidays, weather, or teacher workdays, RCA will provide a video mini-lesson along with challenge puzzles in lieu of in-person class.

    • Missed Classes: No refunds or credits are given for school cancellations (e.g., weather) or a student’s individual missed classes. School-closure cancellations will be made up via video mini-lesson and challenge puzzles.

  • Save $ when you pay in advance:

    • Pay through December and get 5% off each month.

    • Pay through May and get 10% off each month.

    • Prepayments may be canceled at any time. Refunds will be issued for remaining full months, recalculating past months at the standard $65 rate and deducting credit card fees.

  • One-time registration fee: $15

    • A one-time, non-refundable administrative registration fee of $15 covers roster registration, program setup, and team materials. Enrolled students receive a complimentary team t-shirt.
